How to iron fuse beads
- Print the chart at 100 %. Place the beads on the pegboard row by row, following the numbers on the edges.
- Put ironing paper (or baking paper) over the beads. Never iron the beads directly.
- Set the iron to medium heat, no steam. Move it in small circles for 10 to 20 seconds.
- Lift a corner: the beads should be fused but still show a small hole. Iron a little more if needed.
- Let the piece cool under a heavy book so it stays flat. Then turn it over and iron the other side.
Ironing is a job for an adult. Small beads are not suitable for children under 3.
Common problems
- The piece curls: it cooled too fast or unevenly. Put it back under the paper, warm it a few seconds and cool it under a book.
- Beads fall apart: not enough heat. Iron a few more seconds, in circles.
- Holes closed, shiny surface: too much heat. Next time, lower the iron or shorten the time.
Cross-stitch
The same chart works on Aida fabric: one square = one cross stitch. On 14-count Aida, a 13 × 13 design is about 2.4 cm wide. The bead list gives a DMC thread for each colour.
